Five finishes, explained plainly

The right finish depends on the space, not the other way round. Here's what each one is, where it suits and what to expect. If you're not sure, we'll walk you through it.

Exposed aggregate

The stone in the mix is revealed at the surface, giving a textured, natural finish with plenty of grip underfoot. The look changes with the stone you choose, from soft creams to charcoals.

Where it suits: driveways, paths, pool surrounds and any surface that works hard and needs to look good doing it.

Stencil

A pattern is stencilled into the surface as it's laid, giving the look of pavers, stone or tile in one continuous slab. No joints to shift, no pavers to work loose, one surface to maintain.

Where it suits: driveways, patios and entertaining areas where you want the patterned look without the upkeep.

Honed

 The cured surface is mechanically ground back to a smooth, matte finish that feels closer to stone than concrete. Understated and easy to live with.

Where it suits: alfresco areas, pool surrounds and indoor-outdoor spaces where the concrete should sit quietly in the design.

Coloured

Colour is added through the mix or applied to the surface, so the slab works with your home's palette instead of defaulting to grey. From warm naturals through to deep charcoals.

Where it suits: any pour where the concrete should match the house, the landscaping or both.

Polished

The surface is ground and polished in stages to a smooth, refined sheen. The most architectural of the five, and the one that rewards careful prep the most.

Where it suits: interior floors and covered alfresco areas where the floor is part of the design.
